About Us

Myanmar Kabaddi Federation

Myanmar is proudly stepping into the world of Kabaddi for the very first time at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, introducing this dynamic sport to the nation. The Myanmar Kabaddi Federation (MKF) is the official governing body for Kabaddi in Myanmar. It was restructured in May 2025 with a dedicated 20-member team, including Patrons, President, and Vice-President.

Our mission is to promote Kabaddi across Myanmar and beyond, as demonstrated by
our recent delegation to Thailand for the XXXIII SEA Games, where Kabaddi made its
debut appearance.

What is Kabaddi?

Kabaddi is an ancient South Asian sport that blends tag, wrestling, and strategy. Played between two teams on a rectangular court, each team has seven players. The goal is for a raider to enter the opponent’s half, tag defenders, and return safely to their own side—all while chanting “Kabaddi” in a single breath.

How it works :

  • Raiders score points by tagging defenders and returning without being tackled.
  • Defenders score by successfully stopping the raider.
  • The game demands strength, agility, teamwork, and quick thinking.

Kabaddi Formats at the SEA Games

At the SEA Games, Kabaddi is played in the three exciting formats:

  1. Classic Standard (7 Players)
  • Team Composition: 3 Raiders, 3 Defenders, 1 All-Rounder
  • Gameplay: Raiders cross into the opponent’s half to tag defenders and return safely. Defenders aim to tackle the raider. All-Rounders are skilled in both roles.
  1. Super Five (5 Players)
  • Team Composition: 2 Raiders, 2 Defenders, 1 All-Rounder
  • Special Features: Raiders can target multiple defenders. Defenders can perform chain tackles (2–3 defenders working together).
  1. 3 Stars (3 Players)
  • Team Composition: 1 Raider, 2 Defenders
  • Highlight Rule: Defenders can earn Super Tackle points when stopping a raider with only three or fewer players on the court—offering a thrilling comeback opportunity for smaller teams.

MKF is ready to work hand in hand with you to help Kabaddi thrive in Myanmar. Let’s move forward together—to create new opportunities for youth and to elevate the pride of our nation.
